Misinformed
03:27
|
|||
when he got to feeling all alone,
he's digging up a hole into the ceiling of the earth,
sure, maybe he was maybe just a little misinformed,
but aren't we all
when no one was calling on her phone,
she'd feel like staying home and making punctures in the walls,
all over into all the infrastructures of her calm,
she's rubbed them raw
can you feel it in your backside?
something standing where you divide?
with the architecture of your pride
you know what they always say
you know what they always say
you know all that they always say
but you do it anyway
he's taking chisels to the stone,
he's perforated moans into the center of a dome,
oh, he's the perfect picture of a little misinformed,
but aren't we all
can you feel it in your backside?
something standing where you divide?
it's the architecture of your pride
and you know what they always say
you know what they always say
you know all that they always say
but you do it anyway

Scoreboards
03:53
|
|||
when the scoreboard first popped up in our front yard
we were just a little scared
what is that thing doing there?
cause no one told us why that scoreboard was installed
and who had built it on our lawn
and who would pay to keep it on?
I remember daddy's face when he opened the door
his crow's feet and corduroy lit up by the
incandescent yellow of our score
but then we saw one in our neighbor's marigolds
and sure enough, they had their own
up from the roses it had grown
for every carport, garden, yard and picket fence
we could see which one would win
among our neighbors and our friends
I remember our relief when we saw there were more
driveways and cul-de-sacs lit up by the score
what had we been waiting for?
cause if everyone's got one, we want one
ain't no sense in doin it different
if everyone's got one, we want one
wouldn't you want one too?
so even though we were unsure of it at first
we just let them do their work
they even put one on the church
and soon my dad said competition never hurts
it helps us tell the best from worst
and so I wore one on my shirt
and I don't know how we got by before
strip malls and pharmacies were lit up by the
luminescent patterns of those LED's
in reds and greens
let's see who's in the lead
because since everyone's got one, we want one
ain't no sense in keeping it hidden
everyone's got one, we want one
competition we can believe in
rah rah sis boom bah
I want whatever they're singing
I'll sing whatever they're wanting
let's go team let's go

World Starts Over
04:21
|
|||
when the world starts over
we'll all have a good laugh
and think of all the troubles
that we had in the past
and wasn't that so funny
what a crazy old time
can you believe the mess
before we left it behind
remember how they were so worried
and all they talked about was how it's not okay
look how we're laughing with them here
all we had to do was clear the board and start anew
when the world starts over
i will light up your smoke
over beer and vodka
we'll all smile and tell jokes
remember all those people
yelling look at the signs
wasn't that annoying
all that moaning and whine
i'd tell em
you expect me
now to worry about
something i'll never see
you think i can
make a difference
well i don't have time to agree
cause i will laugh and dance into the endtimes
they promised us a show
so let the crises roll
i'll see you on the other side
when somebody else figures it out
when the world starts over
we'll all laugh and look back
at the big pesky puzzle
someone else had to crack
and wasn't it so easy
just what was the big catch
when all we had to do was
just start over from scratch

Censors
05:02
|
|||
contemplating personal expressions I am feeling estranged
either I couldn't speak my mind or my mind has changed
it has changed
concerning what I'm learning while evaluating things that I said
reinterpreting words I meant until the meaning is dead
it is dead
send the censors to the editors
the scissors to the page
I'll tweak and twist and modify
until it suits my taste
looking over images of things I say I value and like
I'm upset with the way it's lit, the composition isn't right
it isn't right
poring over pictures that suggest the things that I am attached to
I would hate for a stranger to form an opinion I don't want them to
I don't want them to
send the censors to the editors
the scissors to the page
I'll tweak and twist and modify
until I make my case
that's not how I meant to say it
that's not who I am
let me just reconvey it
I am sure that you'll understand
wait
no
looking over messages reflective of the things that I love
and afraid the impressions made were not impressive enough
not enough
thinking into pieces something signaled to a person I value
and disturbed by a turn of phrase, as if I really need to care
that they'd care like I'd want them to?
send the censors to the editors
the scissors to the page
I'll tweak and twist and modify
until I've made my case
that's not how I meant to say it
that's not who I am
let me just reconvey it
I am sure that you'll understand
wait
no
send the censors to the editors
the scissors to the page
I'll tweak and twist and modify
until it suits my taste
from the rough draft to the cutting room
the blemish from the face
manipulate material
until it fits my case
that's not how I meant to say it
that's not who I am
let me just reconvey it

Antidote
03:03
|
|||
sun-cracked lips to the antidote
soot-stained smile
we're all stealing sips from our overcoats
but nobody seems to mind
come what may you're paying out
all on black, we're all
sharing drinks with the enemy
cause he'd just stab his own back
well I won't be your raw material
I won't be your missing link
I can't feed your calm delirium
but I'm sure you'll find another ship to sink
filtered, fuzzed still chattering,
dial to stay in tune, but the
signal's dying with the battery
and there ain't much we can do
hijacked trucks for the antidote,
picked to the bone
it's a well-known flaw that's the cause
but nobody calls it their own
well I won't be your raw material
I won't be your missing link
I can't fuel your calm delirium
but I'm sure you'll find another ship to sink
there's a dam this side of the river
that's where all the water's gone
ain't nothing gonna grow in the dirt oh no
but it keeps the streetlights on
yea it keeps the streetlights on

Lottery
04:44
|
|||
oh how I'd love to go sailing away when I win the lottery
oh how nice it'd be
when I touch down on the coastline and I hear them all say
got it made, he's got it made
oh how my friends would all love to be near me, king of the lottery
oh what luxury
when they're standing in the courtyard of my green sculptured lawn
they will want me, they will want me
so put it all in my hands
put it all in my hands
put the world in my hands for free
pick me, pick me
oh how I won't need to dirty my hands once I win the lottery
oh what luxury
having nothing left to work for I'd have all that I need
I've succeeded, I've acheived it
is it so odd to hope that the gods and the odds
might make an exception for me?
guess it doesn't hurt to believe
no, it doesn't hurt to believe
what is success but a untasteful jest at the rest,
at the unchosen hoping the life they are coping with
finally shows them if dreams are granted for free?
oh I'll have shoes made of marble, a spa that flies
and a submarine with a putting green
I'll have flatscreens in my sock drawers
and a new plastic face
I will waste like a king when I have everything
so put it all in my hands
put it all in my hands
put the world in my hands for free
pick me, pick me
pick me
